                    manuscript. Craik’s spelling, punctuation, underlining, superscripts,

                    hyphenated at the end of a line, which we have silently emended. Where Craik
                    uses a non-standard spelling, we have encoded both her spelling and the standard
                    Oxford English Dictionary spelling to facilitate searching. The long s is not

                    thanks for the cheques. <measure type="currency">£15</measure> – If you want
                    receipts always send them to be signed</p>
                <p>The <persName ref="CraikSiteIndex.xml#Hungerford">Captain Hungerford</persName>

                    <hi rend="underline">won't</hi> do – I could hardly believe it came from <title
                        corresp="CraikSiteIndex.xml#OutoftheDepths">Out of the Depths.</title> –
                    Will send all <choice>
                        <abbr>MSS</abbr>
                        <expan>manuscripts</expan>
                    </choice> including <persName ref="CraikSiteIndex.xml#MarstonWestland">Mr.
                        Marston's</persName> back by the person who comes to pack the books on
                    Thursday morning – or whenever you will appoint before then. – of <persName
                        ref="CraikSiteIndex.xml#MarstonWestland">Mr. Marston's</persName> novel I
                    forgot to say that as "reader" (quite as conscientious of friend) – I give it
                    hearty approval.</p>
                <p>My <placeName ref="CraikSiteIndex.xml#Bahia">Bahia</placeName> letter today was
                    so charming &amp; comfortable that I feel gald to my heart's core – &amp;
                    thankful unutterably. – I have troubled <persName
                        ref="CraikSiteIndex.xml#BowesRobert">Mr. Bowes</persName> to get some books
                    for me to send out there &amp; "Start an account" with me for the same. – </p>
